Out of almost 50 wines that were classified as “orange” wines, this was one of three that we had purchased. “Orange” wines or wines that are produced biodynamically with extra skin contact and are bottled unfiltered so they are a healthy and clean wine which of course is desirable in theory but many examples were just too strange to justify bringing them into our establishment of carefully curated selections.
Gonzalez is truly a beautifully crafted wine in its own right yet happens to be a wine in this genre of “orange” with a cacophony of aromas and flavors of mandarin orange, white grapefruit, melon and mineral.
You do not need to experiment when buying wine in the marketplace as we have already done the research.
